Review Lezyne Macro Drive LED Light-Pair

Review Lezyne Macro Drive LED Light-Pair

What a complete dissapointment the Lezyne Macro and Micro Drive lights were.

I was attracted to this lighting system because it was compact in size and seemed to be of decent quality. The housings are machined aluminum and certainly are solidly built. The lights, well at least the Micro light is bright. The Macro light was defective out of the box so I can't really even review that part of this 2 light kit other than the mouting system and how it is charged.
As far as the specs are concerned, both lights provide decent brightness. And the Micro light is actually almost too bright at the standard brightness setting. Cyclists following me say that the light was "blindingly" bright. The light does have a good variety of settings however and the "economy" setting reduces the output of the light to a much lower level. There is also a "Daylight" setting that ups the output, albeit at reduced operating time, to 70 lumens, from 30 lumens (vs 5 lumens for the economy mode.)

What you get in the package are the Micro and Macro Drive lights each with a snap-fit mount, a microUSB charging cable and 2 silicon bands that are used to secure the snap-fit mounts to either the handlebars or seatpost.

The handlebar mount was not tight enough to prevent my Macro llight from changing position when on bumpy roads. I do not think this would be suitable for mountain biking at all because of this.

Unfortunately I could not review the actual Macro light operation because mine was dead out of the box. I attempted to charge the light using the provided microUSB cable. The light seemed to recieve power and complete the charging process but when I tried to turn the light on, nothing happened.

The Micro drive does not use the microUSB charging cable to charge. Instead, it has an actual full-size USB plug on the end which is covered by a screw on cap. You need to plug the entire light onto a comptuer USB port or an AC charger with USB outputs. It makes no sense to me that the Macro light is charged by a microUSB cable while the Micro light is not. Very poor design decision.

I'm extremely disappointed with this lighting system. I was expecting much more from Lezyne.
Review form Mr Erb.Thanks for watching.
