Review Gorilla Gadgets Uhuru! 8400mAh External Portable Battery Pack Charger with dual-bulb flashlight

Review Gorilla Gadgets Uhuru! 8400mAh External Portable Battery Pack Charger with dual-bulb flashlight

If your smartphone or tablet has ever run out of power on you at a critical time and you have no charger or computer USB port to plug into, you'll quickly appreciate the ability to plug a batterypack into your device to give it a quick charge to let you continue working. This Gorilla Gadgets Uhuru batterypack has a large capacity of 8400mAh. An iPhone 4 has a 1420 mAh battery which means you could charge it 4-5 times before you'd need to recharge the Gorilla Gadgets batterypack. There is some loss of power due to the way batteries charge and the electronics of the battery pack.
This won't be able to fully charge an iPad because the iPad battery capacity is much larger... an iPad3 for instance has a 11,666 mAh battery. It may not fully charge the iPad but it will give it a significant charge and enable you to work for many more hours.

This batterypack has 2 output ports, one providing 1A the other 2A. You use the 1A for smartphones and other smaller capacity devices while the 2A is best used for larger capacity tablets, like the iPad. Of course you can usually use either port but devices that are capable of using 2A will charge more quickly on the 2A port. It is reasonably sized and measures roughly 3 7/8" long by 3 1/8" wide and about 3/4 inch thick and weighs 6.53oz
The batterpack is charged by a MicroUSB cable which is included with the batterypack. You get an 8" USB to MicroUSB cable, an Appple 30-pin connector plug that attaches to the MiniUSB cable and a Lightning connector.

There is a concern about the Lightning connector however. It is not an Apple certified connector. With IOS7, Apple has started blocking the ability of third-party, non-certified Lightning adapters to work with Apple devices. Unfortunately I do not have an iPhone 5 with IOS7 so I cannon say whether the Lightning adapter that comes with this batterypack works not.. Gorilla Gadgets is aware of this but has not offered a 100% resolution that I am aware of.

The batterypack also has a fairly bright, 2-LED flashlight. It is turned on and off by a quick double-press of the on/off button of the batterypack.

This batterypack also has a covering I like a lot. It is NOT glossy black like so many other devices so it does not collect fingerprints. Instead it is a smooth, rubberish like coating that feels good and does not collect fingerprints at all.

I've been able to charge everything I've hooked up to this batterypack... iPhone4, iPad3, Kindle, Nexus 7, Asus MemoPad 7, a Samsung camcorder, a Sandisk MP3 player as well as my Sony digital camera and my GoPro Hero3 Black.

This is a well-priced batterypack that seems well-made and has a large capacity.

I was provided a sample for review.
