The corkscrew is a mix of plastic and metal construction. The handle firmly grips the neck of the wine bottle and a quick flip of the handle drives the coated screw into the cork and then pulls it out as you flip the handle back the other direction. It works best with real and imitation cork. It does not work so well with synthetic corks because those types of corks tend to grip the screw as it goes in. Once you pull the synthetic cork out of the bottle, it's also more difficult to remove it from the screw. So I tend to not use this on synthetic corks.
Then there is the aerator. On the plus side it does twist apart to make it easier to clean after you've used it. The aeration action is not as thorough as some other aerators but then again, as part of a very reasonably priced kit, it's OK and probably better than no aerator at all.
This is all packaged in a plastic presentation box that would make it quite suitable for gifting. As a bonus, you get a replacement screw. You'll find that the coating on the screw tends to wear off after opening several hundred bottles at which point it becomes increasing more difficult (sticky) going into the cork. When you notice that happening, it's time to replace the screw.
This comes with a 10 year warranty which is good because the plastic handle feels like it could crack well before that time comes... I'm basing that comment on the previous Rabbit I own that has a much sturdier feel to it. I'm giving this set the benefit of the doubt and rating it 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 since I can't award half stars.
I was provided a sample for review.
