Review EasyAcc® CSR Bluetooth Speakers with Built-in microphone

Review EasyAcc® CSR Bluetooth Speakers with Built-in microphone

I was somewhat disappointed with the overall performance of the EasyAcc Olive Bluetooth Speaker. Although attractive, the materials used made the speaker feel very light in weight and somewhat fragile. The speaker only weighs 8.6 ounces. Size is about 8.5" wide, 2 3/4' deep and 2.5" tall. Taking into consideration the price, I feel it's an OK speaker at this price point but even taking price into consideration, it had issues.

Included with the speaker was a 32"-USB to MiniUSB cable, 28"-3.5mm Male to Male Audio Cable, and a 3.7V 850mAh Li-ion battery. There was no user guide included with my speaker so I had to wing it in figuring out the various functions of the control buttons.

I really liked that the battery was user replaceable and not built-in to the speaker. I wish all bluetooth speakers had a user replaceable battery. The battery charges in 2-3 hours and will provide up to 8 hours of play time depending on volume.

The speaker has several ways to play music... either via an SD card or USB stick loaded with MP3 files, FM radio, AUX In, or bluetooth.
The top of the speaker has 4 buttons and their function depend on what mode you are in, The Mode button switches between Aux In, Bluetooth, SD Card/USB stick, and FM. Next button is the Play/Pause/Handsfree button. When listening to music it is how you play or pause the music. When your phone rings and you want to answer it or you want to initiate a call or redial the last called number, you use the same button. Next are the volume up and volume down buttons which also double as the track selection buttons and FM radio tuning buttons. A quick press of either of the two buttons changes to another track. A press and hold will raise or lower the volume. And when in FM mode, these buttons go up and down the frequency range. However for me, I have yet to get any radio stations. All I hear is static and I live in a Metropolitan area with lots of strong FM signals.

The sound quality was not terrific. One reason why that might be is that the THD (total harmonic distortion) is a very high 10%. Over longer listening periods at higher volumes, my ears were greatly fatigued by the harsh sound quality. I'd say these speakers sound like a low-mid range FM table radio or clock radio. They play loud-ish, but very harsh on the ears.

I had a problem with the battery compartment door falling off the speaker. It did not snap in place. It kept falling off when I was carrying the speaker around. Unless I tape it shut, it's certainly going to fall off and get lost.

Pros:
- Cool looking design vaguely resembling a football
- Multiple ways to listen to music
- User replaceable battery
- Decent battery life

Cons:
- Loose fitting battery door that falls off
- Handsfree microphone is not very good sounding to callers
- Sound is harsh
- On/Off switch seems very fragile
- I was never able to tune in a single FM radio station even though I have strong signals around me

I do not get the impression that this will be a very long-lasting speaker. The on/off switch feels like it's going to snap every time I use it.

This is probably not a bad speaker as a notebook speaker replacement sitting next to your computer. But as an all-around speaker that you'd listen to a lot, I think the harsh sound quality would just grate on your ears eventually,,, it sure did on mine.

I received a complimentary speaker for testing and review, I'll be happy to answer any questions, just leave me a comment.
Review from Mr Erb.Thanks for watching!
