It's coffee making in it's simplest form. The ceramic filter holder sits on top of a cup with at least 10 ounce capacity. Insert a #2 or #4 (my preference) paper cone filter into the ceramic holder. Add 4 Tablespoons of freshly ground coffee into the filter and the pour 10 ounces of just boiling water into the filter. You don't need to measure 10 ounces because the filter holder holds exactly 10 ounces, so just fill it up to the top.
In about 2 minutes you'll have a fresh hot cup of coffee.
I prefer using the #4 paper cones which are a little taller. The reason I use #4 cones is that the #2 cones fit entirely inside the ceramic holder and if you pour a bit too much water into the filter, the coffee grounds can overflow out of the filter and end up in your cup of coffee. The #4 filter sits a little higher, extending out of the ceramic holder a little bit preventing the grounds from sneaking up and over the filter top and into your cup. I think it works better this way.
This may not be the best solution for making coffee for a group of people but for individual cups it's ideal and so easy. A larger capacity French Press would be the way to go for an ultimate cup of coffee for more than one person at a time.
