Review Surpahs Large LCD Tempered Glass 11 Lb/5kg Digital

This Surpahs Kitchen Scale, model STT-1136W, has a large, legible LCD display and is powered by 3-AAA batteries (included.) The top surface of the scale measures roughly 10 x 6" and is about 5/8" thick. It has a maximum weight measuring limit of 11lbs (5kg.)

The top surface is glass and that is very desireable in a kitchen. I have tested other kitchen scales that have physical buttons and/or stainless steel surfaces with cutouts for the display and this presents a problem. The issue is that liquid or food remnants can work their way into the seams between the display and buttons from the foods that you may be measuring posing the danger of an accumulaiton of bacteria in those areas which could easily transfer to other foods. Because this scale has a smooth glass surface, that is not a problem and this can easily be kept clean.

The scale measure in grams, ounces, fluid ounces and milliliters in increments of 1g (0.1oz). I always test the accuracy of a scale by measuring an object of a known weight. In my case, I use a silver dollar which weighs 1 troy ounce (1.1oz or 31 grams). This scale accurately measured the coin at 31 grams.

A somewhat unique feature of this scale is that it has a timer built in to it. Although the operation of the timer is anything but intuitive, it does work well in spite of the confusing labeling and operation of the touch-sensitive buttons.
To set a countdown timer...
- Turn the scale on, by pressing the on/off/tare button.
- Press the "reset" button.
- Use the min/unit and sec buttons to set the time.
- Press the "reset" button again to start the timer.
- When the timer has run down and is beeping, turn the beeping off by touching the on/off/tare button.

You can also continue to weigh items while the timer is operating by pushing the on/off/tare button during timer operation... this simpy switches the scale back to weighing mode while the timer continues to countdown.

It's a bit confusing but the bottom line is that as a kitchen scale, this one is accurate and easy to keep clean.

PROS:
-Glass weighing surface is easy to clean
-Scale is accurate

CONS:
-button labels and operation are a bit confusing
-apparently there is no way to recalibrate the scale or if there is, the instruction manual does not mention it,

I was provided a sample for review.

Review from Mr Erb.Thanks for watching.
